The IPEA today . . .

The Illinois Public Energy Agency provides reliable, cost-effective natural gas supply and effective resource management for its participants. IPEA has formed a strategic marketing alliance with ProLiance Energy. ProLiance has extensive gas procurement, transportation and management capabilities (ProLiance Energy currently procures and manages more than 475 billion cubic feet of natural gas annually) and is a vital part of IPEA’s service to its participants.

The Illinois Public Energy Agency is Illinois’ newest joint action agency and was created to serve the needs of the state’s gas utilities who own and operate their own natural gas systems. It offers natural gas supply and the associated services required to keep these systems at their competitive peak.

The IPEA was formed in 2005 by municipalites interested in looking for ways to lower the costs of their energy supplies. Through a new strategic partnership, better management of pipeline assets, new hedging programs, and reduction of administrative costs, IPEA is projecting significant savings for its participants. Since its inception, IPEA's contract gas sales commitments have more than doubled due to the addition of new purchasers making IPEA the largest natural gas joint action agency agency in Illinois as well as one of the largest in the Midwest.
